For the first time in its more than 50 years of existence the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir participated in the World Choir Games in 2018. These Games were hosted on the African continent for the first time: a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many choristers all over Africa!
Drakensberg Boys’ Choir competed in one of the most spectacular categories: Scenic Pop/Show Choirs. Their performance left the audience breathless and was ultimately crowned with a score of 95.50 and the Championstitle!
Artistic Director Bernard Krüger, who already gained titles of World Choir Games Champions with his Kearsney College Choir before, dreamed of leading the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir to the Champions title, too.
And in the sense of Nelson Mandela’s saying that music “has the power to elevate and liberate us. It sets people free to dream”, this was one of the dreams that became reality at the World Choir Games 2018 in South Africa!
Even in 2021 you can make your dreams become reality: The World Choir Games in Flanders offer the opportunity to participate in a Virtual Competition – check out all information at www.wcg2021.com!
